Dry Shampoo I love you!

Like any new mom pressed for time I appreciate anything that makes my life a little easier. What I appreciate even more? Products that actually DO what they say they can do! Dear marketing professionals: if you say that something is going to double the length of my lashes, call me crazy but yes I actually do expect my lashes to double in size.

So I saw the commercial for TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo last week and for someone with overzealous oil glands it immediately got my attention. Secret? I HATE washing my hair. Washing it makes my showers and getting ready twice as long and when you have a baby, this isn't a good thing. Shampoo, conditioner, blow-dry and since I HATE my hair pin-straight I usually run it through a curling iron for a little volume :) This is why I love the next day soooo much, no need to do all that. Sometimes OK most times I try and get a third day in there but sometimes it looks a little too oily and I just can't get away with it. WELL, this stuff somehow sucks up the oil and you can go for another day or two without washing your hair. (By the way just so we're clear, I do find the time to shower daily) YES!! OK so it's not anything a blush brush and good ol' baby powder can't fix but who needs to spend 5 extra seconds juggling the two when you can have a nice shiny aerosol bottle to fight against the evil oil glands?? OH what a walking contradiction I am. I preach about over abundance and excess and here I am touting yet another product to add to the top of your dresser or bathroom counter - yep the one that doesn't look anything like those magazine-esque clutter free homes with the all too perfect vignettes (antique hand mirror, glass carafe, granny's monogrammed hanky...) you see on blogs/pinterest. Who lives that way??

Anyway back to the overzealous oil glands... so yes, go, run to your nearest drug store or wherever you buy your necessities and give it a go!

PS. If you have black hair like me, take it easy with this stuff. Although it takes away the I have the flu and been in bed all day oily look, it can however add a few years (it turns your hair greyish white if you add too much) - so don't go to town! Oh and I'm taking a little break so I won't be posting here next week but I'll still be over at Nice Package! Happy early Thanksgiving!

I've been searching high and low for a red that would not only work with my skin tone, but something that I would feel comfortable enough to actually wear outside of my house AND not feel like an impostor or a Robert Palmer video chick has-been. After spending what seemed to be hours at Sephora testing out all the reds from every line until my lips were stained and chapped from applying - wiping off - reapplying - wiping off (it was about as much fun as shopping for jeans while bloated and PMSing)... Melis found THE ONE (bless your soul). Of course with my luck, they didn't have anymore in stock, so I ended up ordering it online. Its got a little bit more of orange/pink in it and less blue (which didn't seem to agree with my yellow undertones).

Dear Santa... Part 4 - Makeup

I don't wear a ton of makeup on a daily basis but when I do, I like to focus on the eyes.

1. This lightweight brush-on undereye brightening cream has been featured before. Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener, $18

2. Paula Dorf's Transformer is something I can't live without. It turns any eyeshadow to liquid liner ($18.00). I just ran out of this stuff. Unfortunately, both Sephora and Bloomingdales no longer carry the brand. I've wasted money on other "similar" options (e.g. Benefit's She Laq and Bare Escentuals' Weather Everything) that just don't work as well with my Bobbi Brown eyeshadows.

3. Laura Mercier's Secret brightening pen ($30) brightens dark circles, reduces shadows and minimizes discolouration.

Beauty-find tested

I wrote about Maybelline's Intense XXL Microfiber Waterproof Mascara a while back and I've been meaning to report my findings...

I layered this stuff on as thick as possible right before my hardest spin class - I wanted to test out the waterproof factor. After 45 minutes of sweat, this stuff stayed on like nobody's business. If anyone has ever seen me after a spin class then you know we're talking miracle product here.

My sister was right, this stuff is awesome! For under $10, you can't beat it. It definitely beats the Lancome stuff I was using before. Now I just need to find myself a good makeup remover... any suggestions?

Oh, I also wanted to see if mascara in general made a difference so I took a before and after shot.
