Weekend Eats

Eating out is a bit tougher now since we've been trying to cut down on preservatives and overly processed foods...

Tuna Salad - just wished the tuna was fresh and not canned.

Our new favorite dessert - fresh ricotta with raw honey!

It was 90 degrees (F) on Saturday and while I stayed home with a migraine, Hillsy decided to run outside (yep... you read right - run outside and yes 90 degrees). He came home 30 minutes later and immediately collapsed on the floor and I had to rush to get him a pitcher of ice water. (He's OK)

Sunday breakfast from the farmer's market. Simple bread (type that goes bad the next day) + homemade strawberry jam, butter and raw honey. We also bought a pint of beautiful strawberries.

Our new food outlook has been a lot of fun. I must admit that Hillsy has been the driving force behind this whole endeavor. I guess our trip really made an impression on him. As most of you know, he has a weekly Sunday routine with a close friend of his where they go and have a couple (an understatement) of pints at a pub. I received this really funny text message from him yesterday afternoon that pretty much sums up his enthusiasm for the new diet...

"They ordered calamari, quesadilla AND nachos and I didn't even have one bite"

Great to hear my husband and I aren't alone in attempting to eat fresh/clean/organic. We've become more mindful of where our food is coming from and are attempting to purge the "evil" from our diet as much as possible. Good luck to you guys! I'll look to you for recipes in that vein, Marichelle!

Yum! The food looks delicious. I don't think I've ever had raw honey before...how would you describe the taste (compared to, uh, bear-jar-honey).

Sorry to hear about the running scare, but I must note that those curtains look really pretty!

Liza/Fina/Luke/Donal.....

Liza, it's been week 2 and we're having such a great time exploring, discovering, and learning! I'm reading this great book (that you'd probably find interesting) about a family who moved from Arizona to an upstate New York farm in an effort to "feed themselves animals and vegetables produced from the same place where they worked, went to school, drank the water and breathed the air..." (Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver).

Fina: Thank you very much!!!

Luke: This particular jar is actually whipped. Hmmm how can I describe the flavor... I guess it's a more concentrated, richer, deeper "honey" flavor without it being overwhelmingly SWEET!
The curtains are actually quite old (from UrbanOutfitters). Which reminds me, I should probably wash them soon :)

Donal: Hee hee. Although I must say that I'm usually the more dramatic one :)
