Bridezillas

I just got off the phone with a friend who'll be tying the knot this Friday. I certainly wasn't prepared for the stories that she had in store for me...

From distant relatives unexpectedly bringing along last minute unaccounted-for guests, to ones threatening not to come because they failed to receive a fridge magnet reminder???? Oh and of course there's the bride...

I can certainly appreciate the stress that comes along with planning a wedding - I was once there myself, freaking out about my shower invites not going out on time. Of course "on time" meaning the Martha Stewart suggested send-date. After almost 8 years later and no longer married, I can finally look back and laugh at myself AND maybe even apologize again to my friends for being such a you know what AND cut the next bride some slack!!!

But honestly, what is it about weddings that bring out the worst in us?

Gah, weddings!

I'm so glad mine is over, even though it was a great day. I actually planned two weddings - the first one was meant to be in January '07, and I let myself be pushed around by family members and Martha-Stewart-type authorities and created a day that really wasn't about me at all. Then when we postponed that wedding (and what a drama THAT was), I decided to sod the lot of them and do what I wanted to do. So we had a much smaller, much more chilled out wedding that reflected who we were much better.

Anyway, I think family drama is the worst thing about weddings. Everyone has an opinion, all these feuds re-surface and what should be just a celebration ends up being as complicated as a diplomatic dinner between warring countries.

I feel better after that rant - thank you! :)

Andrea, thanks for sharing your story! You are absolutely right, it IS like a diplomatic dinner between warring countries!! I like that!
