Looking back...
Wow it's freezing in New York. We just got back from a wedding in Florida, where it was about 80 degrees. It was a nice break from "life" - we shared a 7-bedroom house with friends and friends of friends. It was like living in an MTV Real World house. Hillsy and I enjoyed the extra room and access to a washer and dryer - it really doesn't take that much to make us happy =)
It was a great time, but I'm happy to be back - I'm not sure my body could've taken anymore Waffle House, Cracker Barrel and IHOP meals.
The beginning of the year is always a tough time - on one side I'm depressed about Christmas being over as we (Hillsy) struggle to carry down a prickly tree down five flights of stairs and on the other hand I'm excited to see what this new year will bring.
Christmas presents - Santa was very good this year!
Some people hate the idea of New Year's resolutions, arguing the fact that it's stupid for people to set goals or to change habits just because it's a new year. I, on the other hand, have always loved milestones and target dates. I remember choosing Labor Day as my quitting day (smoking) several years ago, not for any significant reason but only because it was the next celebrated day on the calendar.
I haven't quite finalized my resolutions for the year, but I wrote a couple in my notebook on the flight back from Florida...
(in no order)
:: figure out how to dedicate more space to crafting in our 500 square foot apartment
:: take more cooking classes
:: start writing letters to my father
:: start incorporating videos on LIFEFLIX
:: finalize "work" plans
2007 was a great year for me. I learned a lot this year - not only new skills, but about myself and those around me. I've been able to foster the relationships worth working on and have even come to terms with letting go of a few. All in all, I'd have to say it's been one of the best. 2008 surely has big shoes to fill!
